Alabama County Election Offices: Find the right local contact.
All 67 Alabama counties have election officials, but not every voting question belongs at the same desk. Find the correct Board of Registrars, learn which office handles absentee ballots, and check county addresses and phone numbers against the state’s official directory.
Start here: For voter registration or address updates, contact your county Board of Registrars. For absentee applications and voted-ballot returns, contact your county Absentee Election Manager. The two often have different locations and phone numbers.
Who handles what in Alabama elections?
“County election office” isn’t the name of one interchangeable agency. Registration, absentee voting and election administration involve several officials.
County Board of Registrars
Handles voter registrations, registration status, residence and name changes, registration records, and acknowledgment cards.
Choose this office if the voter lookup shows a wrong or missing record.
Absentee Election Manager
Processes absentee-ballot applications, issues ballots, receives voted absentee ballots, and handles specific emergency absentee procedures.
Usually the circuit clerk, but confirm the current county contact.
County Probate Judge and other election officials
Participate in county election administration and official election responsibilities under Alabama law. County officials handle local polling arrangements and related tasks.
Alabama Secretary of State
Chief statewide elections official, publishing the official voter guide, county directories, election information and statewide voting guidance.
For a broader statewide overview, the site’s About Us page explains its independent editorial role. It is not a government election agency and does not maintain official voter records.
Alabama county Boards of Registrars: office addresses and phone numbers
The following directory summarizes physical office addresses and main telephone numbers published in the Alabama Secretary of State’s county registrar directory. It covers all 67 counties.
Important: These are registrar office locations, not necessarily absentee manager locations, polling sites or the correct mailing addresses for forms. Some counties maintain secondary branches, and office details can change. For mailing use the official directory’s separate Mailing Address column.

Directory source: Alabama Secretary of State — Board of Registrars: All Counties. The state also maintains a county official lookup and a 2026 Voter Guide. Because published pages can contain differing historical room or address details, confirm your destination with the office before visiting or mailing important documents.
Notice a different address on another government page? Use the current county’s official office contact, confirm by telephone, and ask whether you need the mailing address or the walk-in location. This matters most when sending a time-sensitive registration application.
Some counties have more than one registrar location
Do not assume the primary location in the directory is the only service point. The Secretary of State identifies supplementary locations for some counties.
Baldwin County
Bay Minette: 119 W 2nd St, 251-937-0229.
Fairhope: 1100 Fairhope Ave, 251-928-3002 ext. 2617.
Foley: 201 E Section St, 251-943-5061 ext. 2859.
Call before going to a satellite office to confirm the specific services available.
Barbour County
Clayton: 1 Court Square, 334-775-8579.
Eufaula: 405 E Broad St, Room A-165, 334-687-1585.
The correct location may depend on the service you’re seeking.
Chambers County
LaFayette: 2 LaFayette St S, Suite B, 334-864-4313.
Lanett: 610 S Gilmer Ave, 334-644-7781.
Confirm hours before making a special trip.
Talladega County
Talladega: 1 Courthouse Square, 256-761-2132.
Sylacauga: 400 N Norton Ave, 256-249-1007.
Use the specific location listed by the state for the work you need done.
These additional offices are Boards of Registrars service locations. Their existence does not mean you can return a voted absentee ballot there; absentee returns have their own designated office and lawful return rules.
Where to contact your county Absentee Election Manager
An absentee-ballot application should go to the Absentee Election Manager—not automatically to the Board of Registrars address printed above.
Alabama publishes a county-specific absentee application directory. Each county entry includes a physical office, mailing address, phone number and application file.
| County | Absentee manager physical office | Telephone |

How to submit an absentee application
- Confirm you qualify to vote absentee.Alabama generally requires a qualifying reason. Read the official eligibility guidance before making a selection.
- Download your county’s form. The form should have the correct county manager’s mailing information. Do not substitute another county’s application.
- Complete the form and ID requirements.Typically provide an original signature and a copy of acceptable photo ID unless a lawful exception applies.
- Send it using an allowed method.Follow the county instructions and allow time for receipt. A postmark alone may not satisfy an application receipt deadline.
- Return the actual ballot correctly.Follow the secrecy-envelope, affidavit, witness/notary and ballot-return requirements supplied with your ballot.
Do not drop a voted absentee ballot at an arbitrary election office. Alabama imposes strict delivery requirements, and an ordinary voter generally returns their own ballot using an allowed method. Specific emergency and military/overseas exceptions have additional rules.
When to call your county Board of Registrars
For a missing registration record, first-time registration, name change, or move, the county registrar is usually the correct local contact.
Changing your address
A move within a county can change your assigned precinct. Moving to a different county can change the Board of Registrars that holds your record.
Update your residence through the official registration portal or the proper county office. Then check your status again before Election Day.
Moving close to an election
Registration closes before an election; Alabama does not offer ordinary same-day registration. If you recently moved and missed the update deadline, ask the Board of Registrars about your precise situation before deciding where to vote.
What to bring when visiting
- Your full registered name and current residence address.
- Your date of birth or other identifying information the office requests.
- Any relevant registration confirmation or acknowledgement.
- Details of when and how you submitted an application, if one is missing.
- Documentation required for your particular change or eligibility question.
Do not share private identifying numbers in public social media posts or with an unofficial website. Use authorized state services and county election offices.
Practical example: You registered in Jefferson County, then moved to Shelby County. Contact the Shelby County Board of Registrars for instructions about your new registration rather than assuming Jefferson County’s polling place is still correct.
Where to find polling places, sample ballots and 2026 voting guidance
The county registrar’s physical address is not your assigned polling place. Alabama determines precinct assignments according to voter registration records.
Find your polling place
Use My Voting Information. Check close to Election Day, especially if your precinct changed.
See a sample ballot
Use the state’s county sample-ballot directory. Ballot choices vary across counties and districts.
Confirm photo ID
Review Alabama’s official photo voter ID list. Your registration postcard is not the photo ID required at the polls.
Check the election calendar
The official 2026 Voter Guide explains registration, absentee, provisional and election-day deadlines.
For the statewide November 3, 2026 general election, the voter registration deadline is October 19, 2026. Election Day polling places generally operate 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Verify the proper local time zone and your assigned polling place.
Who handles municipal elections?
Municipal election administration can differ from statewide and county elections. For a municipal election, contact the city clerk for the city’s applicable rules, locations and calendar.
What happens if your name is missing?
Ask polling officials to verify your registration and precinct with county officials. A provisional ballot may be available for certain cases, but eligibility and whether it counts depend on the underlying records and state law.
Alabama county election offices: map and directions
The map below shows the Jefferson County Board of Registrars location in downtown Birmingham as a representative county office—not a map of all 67 offices.
Jefferson County Board of Registrars: 716 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N, Suite A-410, Birmingham, AL 35203. Telephone: 205-325-5550.
How to find a map for your own county
- Find your county in the directory.Use the physical address—not the P.O. Box—from the official registrar list.
- Confirm the current address.Call the county’s listed office before a long trip, especially if visiting a branch or satellite location.
- Open the correct map.Enter that verified address into your preferred navigation service.
- Check the office type.If submitting an absentee ballot, use the Absentee Election Manager address rather than a registrar office unless officials expressly direct you otherwise.
Statewide office versus county offices: The Alabama Secretary of State’s Elections Division is in Montgomery, while every county maintains its own registrar contacts. A map of one office cannot substitute for your actual polling-place lookup or the appropriate absentee office.
To locate different county officials by county or city, use the state-maintained County Official Lookup.
Alabama County Election Offices FAQs
How many county election offices does Alabama have?
Alabama has 67 counties, each served by county election officials. There may be multiple types of office in one county and more than one physical service location for particular functions.
Is a Board of Registrars the same as an Absentee Election Manager?
No. The Board of Registrars manages registration records; the Absentee Election Manager handles absentee applications, ballot issuance and returns. Their addresses and phone numbers may differ.
How do I find the mailing address for voter registration?
Use the official registrar directory and select your county’s Mailing Address column. Do not assume its street address is the same.
Which office should I call after moving?
Contact the Board of Registrars for the county where you now reside. Update your record and verify your assigned polling place.
Where do I mail my Alabama absentee application?
Send it to your county Absentee Election Manager using the address on the current county-specific application. Do not mail it to a random state or county election office.
Are county registrar offices also polling places?
Not necessarily. Your official polling place is determined by your registration address. Check the state’s voter lookup.
Can I register to vote on Election Day in Alabama?
No. Alabama does not offer standard same-day registration. For the November 3, 2026 election, registration closes October 19, 2026.
Do all county offices have the same opening hours?
No uniform public visiting schedule should be assumed for every registrar branch or absentee office. Contact the specific location for current public hours and appointment requirements.
Who do I contact if my absentee ballot hasn’t arrived?
Call your county Absentee Election Manager and check the ballot status tools linked from the official Alabama absentee-voting guidance.
Where can I report a wrong address in this directory?
Confirm the change with the Alabama Secretary of State’s current county listing, then contact this independent site’s editorial corrections page to request an update.
